Faulty Thermostat a Common Problem
A customer said her unit was still running inside even though she had turned the thermostat off. She said the outside fan also continued running. We found she had a defective thermostat and replaced it.
At Raynor Services, we have seen all types of air conditioner problems, and have the tools and the knowledge to repair them with ease. There are many pieces of an air conditioner that can break down, causing the unit to malfunction. The most common ones we have seen are as follows:
- Damaged blower motors: They function to push air through the ducts to your home or business. Blower motors will need to be replaced if the shaft is damaged, if they are making odd noises, or if they are creating a decrease in air pressure.
- Burned out capacitors: These will need to be replaced in order to restore power to your air conditioner’s components.
- Blocked fan motors: The outdoor fan motor helps to cool air conditioning units, and are sometimes blocked by debris, sticks, or animals. If it becomes blocked, your unit will overheat.
- Improperly maintained evaporator coils: If not maintained regularly, they could be responsible for blowing moldy air throughout your home or business.
- Worn down relays: Relays are like switches that automatically shift to “on” or “off” directing components to do as they are told. If the relays in your unit become worn down or stuck, they will need to be repaired or replaced.
- Burnt, damaged, or loosened fuses: This means you have a broken air conditioner on your hands. A technician will come in and replace them to get your system back up and running.
- Clogged drain lines: It’s not uncommon for drain lines to become clogged by debris, but once it’s clogged the line condensation could cause extensive water damage to your home or business. You need to routinely check these drain lines to prevent that from happening.
