We’ve Grilled the HVAC Master: Here’s How to Prepare Your Home’s HVAC System for BBQ Season

home HVAC system ready for BBQ seasonWe may not be able to help you with tips on how to get rid of mosquitoes, but we can provide you with plenty of tips on how to prepare your home’s HVAC system for BBQ season! To help keep your emergency AC repairs to a minimum and your home’s comfort at a maximum, read on for some ways you can beat the heat this summer.

Fire Up Cleanliness and Efficiency with Clean Filters
Whether you have a relatively new AC unit or an old one, if you haven’t recently cleaned your unit’s air filters, now is the time to do so. Overtime, air filters fill up with dust and other particles, and when this happens, it prevents air from easily being able to flow through, forcing your unit to have to work harder. To prevent this, it’s best to clean or replace your filters, and to ensure they stay in good shape moving forward, be sure to clean them on a quarterly basis.

Avoid Crowding the Area Around the Unit
BBQ season also means picnic tables, lawn furniture, beautiful blooms and summer fun equipment, all of which can quickly crowd your backyard AND the area around your HVAC unit. While a cluttered backyard can be an eyesore, it can also make your HVAC unit perform less than satisfactory. Fortunately, if you pay attention to the space around your unit and try to keep approximately two feet around the unit clear, you won’t have to deal with an overcrowding issue.

Smoke Out Mosquitoes with a Dehumidifier
No, this doesn’t literally mean that a dehumidifier will smoke them out, but a dehumidifier will help decrease the amount of mosquitoes you’ll have to deal with in your home this summer! Because mosquitoes love a humid environment (and if there’s one word that describes an east coast summer, it’s humid), investing in a dehumidifier is a great way to keep those pesky mosquitoes to a minimum. We know we said that we wouldn’t be giving you tips on how to get rid of mosquitoes, but hopefully this tip helps limit them!

Don’t Get Burnt By an Old, Inefficient Unit
As HVAC units age, they become less efficient, making your home less comfortable — which is not something you want to deal with when you’re looking to escape from the summer heat! If you know your unit is ten years or older, you may want to consider having a new AC unit installed. Another way to know that it’s time to replace your unit is if you’re constantly having to schedule air conditioning repair appointments. Rather than wasting money on repair after repair, it’s best to replace it with a new AC unit instead.
