Older Homes Need upgrading to Keep Up With Demands of New Appliances
A customer called us wanting to have his electrical panel upgraded from 150 amps to 200 amps. His house is 40 years old and he had recently purchased a new washer and dryer as well as several other appliances.
Many of today’s electronics and appliances present power demands that the electrical systems of older homes can’t handle very well. If your house is 30 years or older, you may find that your lights dim when you use a hair dryer or your circuit breakers trip on a regular basis.
If this is the case, you may want to consider having your electrical panel replaced with a system that can deal with higher power draws.
There is a safety aspect as well. If your home was built in the 1950s or 1960s, it will probably have a Federal Pacific panel. These pieces of equipment have been known to present a substantial fire risk.
